Microeconomics Deal or No Deal

Introduction:

Hi this is Ewil the synthesizer for our group, being given the opportunity to synthesize our skit is a big opportunity for me to understand more the given topics and effects of microeconomics in our life. The first thing I have done is research what is a synthesis and a Role play. :) What do these familiar words really mean?
As I have browse web pages on the net about it I have found out that a Synthesis is a composition or a combination of parts as to form a whole. Also I have researched about Role playing refers to the changing of one's behavior to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role.

                 The Meeting of the Brains
Sir James our professor asked the class to count off 1 to 4 for the groupings on the said activity. I was really excited but at the same time a bit anxious because I might be out of place in the group since I was an irregular student and most of my classmates are in block section. By the way my group number was 3, so after the count off Sir James asked the class to find your group mate and start the planning for the role play. At first everybody is shy because half of the group is not in the said section too. Being an extrovert person I decided to act as the leader for a while. I asked the group to cooperate and elect officials for the group, give out their ideas and choose from the topics recession, business cycle,   components of GDP,   fiscal policy and microeconomics vs. macroeconomics which our professor had given us for our role play topics. After some talk and chit-chat we finally elected our officers and the topic which is the Business Cycle. So I called it a day and set a meeting sometime in the weekend.

This is our group and I’m the one wearing white shirt.

A Hard Days Afternoon
It’s a Saturday I was supposed to be home in the mountains but since we had set a meeting I had to be there. We are all use to Filipino time so I set the meeting time at 12 noon so that everyone will be there at exactly 1:00 pm. Good thing everyone was there on time. We started the meeting and finalize our skit. Maureen one of our members researched about the business cycle and made a script about it. We already plan a scene about the 9/11 attack and how the American economy fall. But the group decided to change the topic and all agreed to have a game show since we can relate it to business cycle the rise and fall. So after series of exchanging of ideas we had come up with the game show “The Price Is Right” but the game show doesn’t represent the rise and the fall which we can relate to our topic and then suddenly something struck out of my mind I suggest “why don’t we have the Deal or No Deal” since there is a rise and fall of prices. Everyone agreed on my suggestion and we again had an exchange of ideas for our new skit. We also agreed to make a commercial that will be part of our game show. So we called it a day and Maureen represented to research about the game show and made the script.

behind the scene
We used the economics time since we had no class because there will be a forum about economics 4pm at the mini auditorium that day. So the group met and start to look for the location of our shoot we found a vacant room on the 5th floor. It was one of the experienced that the group became more closed and everyone in the room was smiling and laughing because of the commercial for our show.
The commercial is also related to economics.

finalizing the scene
It's a Saturday again and I’m supposed to be home for the weekend but we had to practice our game show because it will be presented on Sept. 5 Monday but our professor Sir James moved the other half of the group on Wednesday Sept 7, lucky for us. We have wasted no time and started the rehearsal. I’m very satisfied and happy about what my groups’ performance on the practiced they are very cooperative. They have overcome my expectations on that day. Very impressive work and teamwork, we had also finalized the props and the script that will be used on the game show. Most of it where technical props like AVP’s and sound effects. We end the day by a run through of the show and hope that everything will go according to plan on presentation day.

Presentation Day

September 7, 2011 (Wednesday)

Finally the moment the group had all been waiting for the final presentation of the skit. We went 15 minutes earlier at the room at started installing the projector, arranging the seats and putting on the props. Unexpectedly there was a technical problem and we started the show 15 minutes late. We asked sorry to our classmates and Sir James for the inconvenience and delay. We are thankful that they still bear with us.And so the show went on.

The concept
Deal or No Deal is a prime example of microeconomics theory at work it could be a useful tool for more expansive studies of the relationship between risk and utility. The host of our game show is no other than Ms. Mary Jane Rivera who plays the role of Ms. Kris Aquino and our contestants were Mr. Genesis Yamyamin and Ms. Maria Corazon Oriz. Who plays the role of John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo.

Microeconomics DEAL or NO DEAL part I

Insights and Learning

For most of people deal or no deal is just another game show, but if you had taken up economic classes you would look at it differently. As we all know economics is broken down into two distinct parts of microeconomics and macroeconomics , we chose deal or no deal because it clearly represent the relationship of both microeconomics and macroeconomic levels work as a whole, for example, the contestants interaction with the briefcases to open illustrates, opportunity costs, the decision making process and households and focuses on patterns of supply and demand and the determination of price and output individual markets for example a related market to our play is the labor market. In microeconomics underlies the basic theory of supply and demand and how individual businesses decide how much of something to produce. For example, our contestant opened a large amount of briefcase, so now he is aware that the remaining briefcases have small accounts and he would likely increase his chance of picking a briefcase with a small amount and would likely increase his profit or his win. Macroeconomics, on the other hand, as we all know, looks at economics at a big picture as the banker and the game were made from the briefcases that were opened and his offers greatly affects the contestants decision like the firms and households.
